Using Stories to Make Your Presentations and Interviews More Fascinating, Persuasive, and Memorable

How NOT to Blow Your Big Speaking Opportunity – When you have the chance to speak in front of a group–especially if you only have a few minutes–here’s what NOT to do. It’s based on what I’ve seen a lot of vendors do at association meetings.

How Not to Suck When the Media Comes Calling – It’s your big change to say something memorable…not something abstract or trite. Here’s how.

How to Start Off a Presentation with a Story…and Why You Want To – This post plus video describes why starting off with a story is a good idea. The video gives you an example of me starting off a presentation with a story about starting off a presentation with a story. Do you follow? 🙂

Nervous About Speaking? Just Add Stories – This post deconstructs a semi-impromptu talk I was asked to give and includes the 10 minute recording.

Tell a Better Story. Generate More Interest. Grow Your Business – This is from a 60 minute talk I gave to entrepreneurs on how to use stories to make their communication more interesting and persuasive. When you go there, you not only can listen to the recording, you can also download the handout participants received, which helps walk you through key business storytelling genres like the Origin Story and the Pain and Promise Story.

How to Get People to Bond to You–i.e. Care About You and Your Message–By Telling Your Origin Story

If you go to the About section on this site, you can read my Origin Story. While it will help you get a sense of where I’m coming from, and–hopefully–feel a stronger connection to me as a person–more importantly, it will give you an example of how to tell an Origin Story.

Download the handout mentioned earlier from the Tell a Better Story. Generate More Interest. Grow Your Business. It will get you started on telling your Origin Story.

Books on Business Storytelling

There are dozens of books on the subject. Here are a few I recommend:

Business Storytelling for Dummies – Don’t let the “Dummies” part of the title fool you. This book is filled with solid “How to” information and perspectives that I found new and useful, and I’ve been using and teaching storytelling for over 20 years.

Stories That Sell – This focuses on using customer stories to communicate the value your business provides.

Making That Next Presentation a Great One…Whether You Are Speaking at an Event or Selling 1-to-1

Contact me david (at) humannatureatwork.com to discuss how we can work together to help you become a more fascinating, persuasive, and memorable communicator by using storytelling.

To get you started, we will do a complementary 20-30 minute Rock Your Presentation Strategy Session.
